Most of the work on this historic newspaper is done by our members. Because we are a worker cooperative, each member is entitled to a small ‘patronage dividend’ for their work – though many simply dedicate that dividend back to the newspaper – it’s an entirely individual decision. Either way, it’s a labor of love.
Work on the newspaper includes the more obvious elements of writing and editing. But to be successful, we have to behave like a business – so our advertising and accounting departments must also be staffed. They are less romantic than being a writer, but equally critical to our continued success.
Commitments can start at as little as two hours every other week. We need people to extract stories from emails, answer phones and take advertising requests and payments. Help with accounting is also a constant need for those with such skills. We train people to do unfamiliar things and a willing spirit is the best predictor of success. We have roles available for those willing to take on responsibilities. Use the form below to contact us or call us Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. for more information. Visit the office and spend an hour in our shoes…
