Watch Out: Valentines Day 2024 Is Coming. Get Ready!

Watch Out: Valentines Day 2024 Is Coming. Get Ready!

Members of the News Review staff, far from being the hard-boiled reporters you might expect, are really a bunch of incurable romantics.

Each year, we publish a special Valentines issue, tastefully embellished with hearts, puppies, roses, kittens and sometimes bicycles made for two.  The ads flit from loving hearts across Greenbelt to friends, family, lovers and even institutions like the Co-op Supermarket or, gosh-darn-it you guys, this newspaper.

This year’s display will be available electronically at GreenbeltNewsReview.com on Wednesday, February 14 by 7 p.m. and at doorsteps and newsstands the next day. It’s a cheap and cheerful way of acknowledging who and what you love. It’s less expensive than a dinner date and much less fattening than chocolate.

Here’s how to get one for those you love.  If you’re feeling neglected, you can send one to yourself.

Timeline

All submissions, with payment, must be received by Saturday, February 10 at 6 p.m.

Electronically: Easiest Way

Go to greenbeltnewsreview.com and click the Valentines heart button on the home page.  Follow the directions to provide your text and click on the PayPal button to pay.

In Person: Low-Tech and Reliable

Paper forms are available in this newspaper and on displays in the New Deal Café and the Co-op Supermarket. Both locations accept completed submissions sealed in the envelopes provided on the displays. Fill in the form legibly and include cash or check (made out to Greenbelt News Review).  Our office hours in the Community Center are Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. for delivery in person and our door slot can be used at all other times.  Ads without payments will not be published.

By Mail: Chancy

Delivery is LEAST predictable by U.S. Mail but if you must use it, send your completed ad submission form (cut from this issue) with a check made out to the Greenbelt News Review to this address: Valentines at Greenbelt News Review, 15 Crescent Road, Greenbelt, MD 20770.  There are potential delays even once the mail gets delivered to the city offices, so send EARLY.

Pricing

The smallest Valentine (Sweetie) costs $6 for 20 words or fewer. The next size is 21-30 words (SuperSweetie) and costs $9 and the largest standard size (MegaSweetie) is 31 to 40 words at $12.  Additional words are $3 per 10 words or part thereof.

We accept checks or cash but do not give change – any overpayment is considered a contribution to the newspaper.  There are several examples of ads and their word counts and costs in this issue.
