School Bell Time Shifts Now Clarified

On Thursday, April 4, Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) Superintendent Millard House II ended more than a week of confusion by announcing that the three standardized bell times for schools will include a mix of school levels at each time.

“This plan will not shift all elementary schools to 7:30 a.m., nor all middle schools and Pre-K to 8 academies to 8:30 a.m., nor all high schools to 9:30 a.m.,” wrote House in an email.

“Schools will be notified of bell time shifts no later than April 26. Note that 90 percent of schools are expected to have no shift or a shift of 15 minutes or less,” House clarified.

Standardized bell times are part of five transportation changes PGCPS will implement for school year 2024-25 (see article in last week’s issue). Administrators have announced a series of information sessions about the changes. One will be held on Saturday, April 27, at Eleanor Roosevelt High School from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
