Luncheon and Silent Auction Celebrate Editor, Fund Archive

“Enough with the celebrations,” protested Mary Lou Williamson, in response to a luncheon to mark her new status as editor emerita of the Greenbelt News Review (GNR). She remained resolute until enticed by making the luncheon also the launch pad for a critically-needed new archive for this newspaper.

Enter Sandy Lange – veteran of the paper and master event planner. Barely the twinkle of an eye later there was a venue, a menu, a committee and no shortage of ideas. Williamson surrendered quite gracefully, all things considered.

When and Where

Willingly co-opted were GNR members Sylvia Lewis, JoEllen Sarff and Peggy Higgins, with Deanna Dawson as point for all things archival. And since the event was now not all about her, Williamson also beamed herself up. The result of this fortunate collaboration will be a luncheon on May 6 at 1 p.m. at the Greenbelt Marriott and a silent auction to be held online and at the event. Further details are in the box and the advertisement on the back page of this week’s paper.
