Frankie Santos Fritz is a community organizer and policy analyst for local government who has called the D.C. metro area home since moving here for college in 2013 and has been active in Maryland politics since 2017. Raised by paternal grandparents, a teaching assistant and a United States postal worker, in a union household, Fritz is a first-generation college student with a bachelor’s degree in history and minor in sustainability from George Washington University. A Filipino-American, if elected Fritz would be Greenbelt’s first city councilmember of Asian descent.
Fritz is running to prioritize improving our quality of life by emphasizing steps to make Greenbelt a more affordable and inclusive city. Their platform focuses on supporting federal and local workers, holding landlords accountable for code and lease violations, capping rent increases to 3 percent or the rate of inflation, enhancing bus, bike and pedestrian transportation options, and protecting our immigrant and LGBTQ+ neighbors.
Fritz has worked on numerous electoral campaigns in Maryland and in the labor movement including with unions such as the United Food and Commercial Workers and UNITE HERE! Fritz has also served as the chair of the Montgomery and Prince George’s County Branches of the Metro D.C. Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), organizing members in fights to repeal tax giveaways for country clubs, for reproductive justice and for historic rent stabilization legislation to give tenants deeply needed relief in the wake of Covid-19.
An avid history nerd, Fritz was drawn to the rich New Deal and cooperative history of Greenbelt and organized several tours to the city’s museum with friends in 2019 and gave a lecture on the history of Greenbelt in 2021. After many months of searching with the help of Realty 1 Inc., Fritz was proud to purchase a Greenbelt Homes Incorporated (GHI) unit in 2023, and is now a member of the Co-op Supermarket and Pharmacy, Greenbelt Cinema and Prince George’s County Federal Credit Union. Since moving to Greenbelt, Fritz has advocated on several city issues including for all-resident voting rights and codification of the police general orders against local police entanglement in civil federal immigration law.
For relaxation, Fritz enjoys Formula One (Forza Ferrari), acrylic painting, film, visiting the Jersey Shore, live music, spending time with friends and finding new and novel experiences around the DMV and beyond.
