Four Eagle Scouts Honored

On Sunday, June 5, Boy Scout Troop 214 honored four scouts – Andrew Jones (Greenbelt), Devon Kaelber (Greenbelt), Sean Leonard (Hyattsville) and Lee Smith (Greenbelt) – who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in scouting. The ceremony took place at Elks Lodge #1778 in Riverdale Park with family members and fellow scouts in attendance.

Achieving the rank of Eagle is no easy task and requires the dedication of the scout to fulfill its requirements. Each aspiring Eagle Scout must plan, develop and lead a service project to help an organization, school or community. True to Troop 214’s focus on the outdoors, the scouts’ service projects focused on improving local parks, from trail re-mulching to invasive species removal and the protection of trees.  At least two of the service projects took place in Buddy Attick Park.
