County Health Department Moves Health Care Center to Greenbelt

A new facility in Greenbelt will allow the County Health Department to expand healthcare services for residents. On October 23,  Prince George’s County leaders hosted a ceremony for the Health Department’s new Health Center in a five-story building on Edmonston Road. This state-of-the-art facility will replace the aging Cheverly Health Center and provide a critical upgrade in healthcare services for county residents.

“We are Prince George’s Proud to officially begin work on our new, state-of-the-art health center, marking yet another important step forward for Prince Georgians’ health,” said County Executive Angela Alsobrooks. “Our goal is to offer our residents new opportunities to receive care close to home and build the kind of healthcare infrastructure this community deserves.

The acquisition of the 80,000-square-foot, five-story building located at 9001 Edmonston Road will improve healthcare accessibility and quality in the county, say county representatives. The Greenbelt facility was acquired at a cost of $8.9 million and is designated for extensive modernization and the expansion of essential services. County government has invested $18 million in the new health center, substantially strengthening public health services by enabling the expansion of vaccinations and critical public health services, while also meeting operational, storage, meeting and office space requirements.

The new health center will serve as a hub for a wide range of healthcare services, including behavioral health, dental care, disease investigation and control, a reproductive health resource center for sexually transmitted infection services and more. It will also be equipped to reduce patient wait times, enhance staff-to-patient ratios, introduce modern equipment like telehealth capabilities and streamline patient processing. The larger facility will also allow the Health Department to expand healthcare services in the future based on community needs.

“In its expanded capacity, this facility is tailored to meet the ever-changing healthcare needs of our community,” stated Dr. Matthew Levy, Prince George’s County health officer. “This new health center highlights our commitment to broadening healthcare access and delivering important public health services.”
