Published continuously since the New Deal City of Greenbelt was founded in 1937, the News Review is delivered free to most Greenbelt residents. In 1970 we won a landmark First Amendment case in the Supreme Court. 

Andrew Rice Carruthers died Friday, March 11 2016

According to a police report, Andrew Carruthers, 51, shot himself in front of the Mother and Child Status in Roosevelt Center in the early hours of Friday morning, March 11. Police were investigating a report of shots being fired in the Center.  The police report states that, as the officer approached him, Carruthers took his own life with a handgun. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Carruthers, a freelance photographer, was active in Greenbelt and GHI and was the long-time moderator of the greenbelters yahoo group.  The News Review offers condolences to his family and friends. There will be a Memorial Service for Andy Carruthers Wednesday March 23 from 5-8pm at Paint Branch Unitarian Universalist Church in Adelphi, Maryland.
